Smartphones present a modern conundrum of productivity. They have revolutionized the world of communication, and the ripples of their introduction are being felt as well. But are they good or bad for our world?
In the first place, smartphones are innovations. As they evolve, technology evolves to keep pace with them. Newer and newer functions and applications are being added. However, the constant innovation causes obsolescence to older units. As a new generation of smartphones comes out, older models just become under-supported.
Secondly, you are always connected. You are able to use the Internet, so with a smartphone you can even reach videos or your emails, check your online accounts (for instance on Facebook, Twitter, and so on), in brief, they are for more than phonecalls and texts. With the appearance of apps, programmers can build into a phone that goes far beyond merely talking.
Despite the upsides the notifications of the applications can be disturbing. Those voices (kind of like „dings” and „beeps”) can turn you into Pavlov’s dog. You may find yourself browsing your phone all day and all night long, connected to the Internet, but disconnected from your milieu. And as a result of the colorful range of the apps, you are able to download not only the useful units, but also the time-wasting ones, which just cause unproductive time.
All things considered, if you let your phone rule you, it can give more problems to you, than benefits. Still, if you are the smarter, of course you can make a profit out of your smartphone.
